Cortana Lands in China With Windows Phone 8.1 Update
Her notifications are also more attuned to the region; for instance, weather alerts include updates on air quality. It's Cortana's Chinese connection that sets the tone for this update, though: many of the new features are meant to cater to customer demands developing nations. Dual-SIM devices will support both GSM and CDMA networks and it supports a new screen resolution, too: 960 x 540 - better for midrange phones. That's not to say there aren't some welcome new features for all Windows Phone users. As rumored, the coming update also introduces folders. Although Windows Phone 8.1 supports Bluetooth Smart, the update introduces notifications, ensuring, say, your Fitbit's live tile gives you updates without needing to do a full sync. Finally, Windows Phone 8.1 has native support for smart covers, lending credence to the rumor that a Windows Phone version of the HTC One M8 - complete with Dot Cover - is in the works. The update will be available Wednesday to developers.
