Democrats Do a Throwback Thursday for Healthcare
The message? Under the Affordable Care Act, young people stay on their parents' health insurance plans until the age of 26. So if you were born in 1988, it's time to think about getting your own plan. The government needs healthy young Americans to buy coverage in order to keep premiums affordable for everyone. To reach this age group, Obama appeared on Funny Or Die with Zach Galifianakis, in March; he also launched the #GeeksGetCovered campaign. Other tactics have been less successful, such as the tweet of Obama holding a sign that drew the ire of Photoshop trolls. In case you don't know, Throwback Thursday is the day social media users post and tag nostalgic pictures. Other Democratic luminaries followed Biden's lead, posting pictures of their younger selves, adding #TBT to the existing campaigns #BornIn88 and #GetCovered. According to Apple-owned analytics firm Topsy, #GetCovered was tweeted around 175,000 times Thursday, while #BornIn88 was tweeted about 160,000 times.
