Its Not the Sharks Fault: Aussie Teen Surfer Laughs After Shark Bites Her Leg
Australian teenager Kirra-Belle Olsson posted photos on Facebook of the injuries she sustained in a shark attack on Friday, as she made it clear it was not the shark's fault. The 13-year-old Rip Curl-sponsored surfer was bitten on the leg by a wobbegong shark while surfing at Avoca Beach, on the central coast of New South Wales. She was about 10 to 15 metres from shore when she said she "Dropped in on" the shark, meaning she caught the shark's wave. Not long after the attack, the teen's Facebook account showed graphic photos of her wounds, with the caption "Got attacked by a shark." Olsson, with a maturity well beyond her years that would put Shark Week out of business, followed up with a post telling people to respect the "Amazing" sharks. Sharks are one of the most amazing creatures as I snorkel with them and they don't attack unless they mistake you for a fish. It isn't the first time Olsson has come in contact with a shark while surfing in Australian waters. "This shark was right in front of me with its mouth wide open getting a fish," she told the Daily Telegraph.
