Homeland Episode 6 recap: Send in the drones like you just dont care
With Brody's death capping off Season 3, Season 4 has revealed a shrewder Carrie, one willing to sever ties with both budding and deeply-rooted emotional relationships: first with her daughter, then with Aayan to the horror of both her task force and viewers at home, even Saul - all for the sake of the broader CIA mission. The line between recruiting and emotional manipulation has virtually vanished in her relationship with Aayan, as he, the nephew of a sought-after terrorist Haqqani, has fallen in love with Carrie. Carrie is completely willing to have Aayan be collateral damage in a drone strike so long as the strike takes out the CIA's targeted terrorist. Quinn has already expressed dismay at Carrie's recruitment tactics when it comes to Aayan, and Nazanin expressed dismay at Carrie's willingness to allow Aayan be killed in an effort to kill Haqqani. Though Carrie has sharply defended her actions to her team members, she shows a small crack in her assuredness as drones track Aayan in his mission to reach his uncle. Haqqani informs Aayan that he's been played by Carrie, that everything has essentially been a ruse to lead the CIA directly to him. Aayan looks up to the drone overhead, an eerie echo of Carrie's first encounter with Aayan as he stared up at a drone while standing over the dead bodies of his family - his family that Carrie was responsible for killing. Carrie, with eyes on nothing but the bigger mission, continues to implore the drone pilots to take the shot, but Quinn snaps at the pilots to stand down, and slaps sense into Carrie.
